Humans are naturally obsessed with butterfat – it’s what makes mother’s milk so nutritious. It’s in our genes to wolf as much butter as possible. Take some heavy cream, add some chocolate syrup, chill it to just above freezing, and see if you can stop chugging that thing. You can’t.
I think it’s a “learned addiction”….I now tend to “spice up” eggs and cook them without any butter/oil etc in a nonstick pan….I try to do work arounds for a lot of my cooking. Sure, it often is disastrous or not quite the same, but just trying to be more aware of what we’re eating…
The trick is to slowly convert yourself.
If you use two pats of butter, slowly reduce the amount of butter and substitute olive oil.
But, be sure to add the appropriate amount of salt to the olive oil for taste.
If it still makes you want to puke, try converting even slower. After 250 years, you should be able to eat your eggs cooked in virtually any type of oil!
I’m not looking for a substitute. I love butter and will continue to use it. I can’t go near anything that’s coconut. Makes me gag, so that’s out. I’m just amazed at how two fats can change eggs from something amazing and delicious to something that I can’t even swallow. And I love olive oil on other things.
That’s what my Mom always did. Everything here involves bacon grease if possible. I prefer butter, but I had to wait until I was on my own to enjoy it.

It’s all in your head…

Jaimee has demonstrated to me that eggs are even better with bacon grease than with butter 🙂

Olive oil and garlic. Love them both. Some things do not play well with others. Eggs and butter. Nothing else will do.
My Son, if you keep using that butter, you won’t be able to see your “eggs” luv ya.
